Destination Weddings in Armação de Pêra
Armação de Pêra was originally a small fishing village. It was given its name because of its distinct tradition: The net in which the fishermen caught the Tuna was called "Armação." Since the area is close to "Pêra," the village has been named Armação de Pêra. The town is usually visualized with rows of holiday apartments and a collection of bars and restaurants located at street level. The town is bustling with tourists during the peak vacation season, but the rest of the year, the area is calm and relaxing.
Armação de Pêra is noted for its pleasant beaches of Senhora da Rocha, and the pretty coves around the coastline. There is a small Romanesque Chapel, Our Lady of the Rocks, in which fishermen would pray before venturing off for a night of fishing. Fishermen often take tourists on a trip along the coastline, where fascinating rock formations and grottos can be found. Along the beach on the east side of town, there are numerous fish restaurants that offer delicious, local fresh seafood. The nearby village of Pêra swanks one of the nicest long, sandy beaches in the Algarve region, and is a favorite of most tourists.
The area is filled with Moorish architecture, which lays comfortably against the characteristic landscape. Places near to Armação de Pêra are the market towns of Algoz, Alcantarilha, Porches and the historic city of Silves, known for its magnificent walls and castles.
Couples often choose Armação de Pêra as a wedding site because of its charm. In addition, the wedding party and guests are able to enjoy the resort area, with all of its events and activities, before and after the celebrations!
