Destination Weddings in Sintra

Sintra is a walled city located 29km North West of Lisbon.

Noted for its numerous archaeological remains, including historic and prehistoric tombs, the region resonates with art and culture at every turn. Authors and artists throughout the ages have tried to depict Sintra in artistic terms. It has been described as "a noble town surrounded by many estates, pleasant woods with plentiful springs of excellent water” by various renowned authors through the ages.

When the railway between Lisbon and Sintra was completed in 1887, the town became a popular summer resort destination, attracting the Lisbon middle class. People flock to Sintra to enjoy its lush, green hills and its breathtaking views of the coastline. The landscape has attracted both Portuguese artists and painters from around the world to capture the essence of this gorgeous community. Scientists and historians as well have assembled for years to study Sintra's magnificent ancient heritage.

Great wines are made in this area, and stunning marble is produced from the quarries nearby. The gastronomy in Sintra is famous for the use of fresh produce and unique, Portuguese flavors.

The three National Palaces, Palácio da Vila, Palácio da Pena and Palácio de Queluz, and the local public museums contain vital collections, both historic and artistic, that document how the people of Sintra have evolved through the centuries. There are valuable archaeological remains on display throughout the area, particularly from the Roman period.  Famous ancient manor houses, churches, quaint villages and other interesting artifacts combine to make Sintra a cherished destination for those who appreciate history.

It also makes a fabulous location for a classically European wedding in grand Portuguese style!
