Unique characteristics of this Exotic Garden Hotel
Perched atop a steep hill overlooking the city of Funchal, lies a striking and fascinating garden resort. The Exotic Garden Hotel boasts 2.5 hectares (6 acres) of lovely subtropical gardens with unusual plants and flowers from all corners of the world. The exotic gardens boast almost 500 different species of plants. Most of the trees were planted in the early 18th century and throughout the years the diverse owners have invested lots of time and care in improving these vibrant gardens, which could easily rival any fine botanical garden in the world.
The Exotic Garden Hotel has an affluent history. Built in the 18th century, it once housed General Beresford, commander of British forces in Madeira during the Napoleonic wars as well as other prominent British and French families. It has since been remodeled and transformed into a luxury resort, keeping with its elevated standards and manor house ambiance.
This venue is very child friendly. There is a special kid’s game room complete with child size billiards and foosball table, a colorful room with lots of kids’ activities, an outdoor playground, as well as inflatable swimming pool toys.
The Exotic Garden Hotel is one of Madeira’s best kept secrets and you will certainly be amazed with everything this resort has to offer, especially the gardens which have been home to the venue’s giant tortoise for almost 50 years and the lake where two real swans and many fish live.
Once you arrive at this relaxing refuge, you will never want to leave. What a unique luxurious setting for a charming garden wedding!
