Destination Weddings in Vila Real
Vila Real is located between Corgo and the Cabril Rivers, and it is the capital of the Trás-os-Montes province. Recently the city has undergone major improvements, which include the installation of a park with sports facilities, and a walking path built along the river. The main city square, where the city hall is located, has been closed to traffic and embellished with colorful fountains. The largest shopping center in the region was established in 2005.
The State University, known as Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, is nationally renowned for its forestry and wine making programs. The church buildings and much of the architecture reflects different eras and styles. Nicolau Nazoni, the famous architect, left his signature on the Church of the Clérigos and designed the notable Baroque manor house, Casa de Mateus.
Vila Real has a long history that spans several centuries. The Celts, Romans, Barbarians and Moors inhabited it during the Paleolithic Age. Plans to populate Vila Real were instituted in the 12th century and in the 13th century, King Dinis founded Vila Real de Panóias, which has become the basis of the city as it is known today.
Vila Real has features that are unique to its area. The town is well known for its distinctive black pottery, which is made in Bisalhães and Vilar de Nantes. The chief commerce in Vila Real is based upon its wine and port trade. There are a number of talented women in Agarez who produce hand made linen. A specialty, known as "Touchinho do Céu" is a local favorite, and is made with pumpkin filling.
Vila Real is an amazing place to hold a wedding ceremony. With its eclectic mix of old and new, the town lends a unique hint of modish style to any celebration.
